BRACE,
the Bone Reconstruction Association for Care and Education, is
a nonprofit charitable organization formed to provide financial
assistance for the surgical correction of bone and joint deformities.
Until
BRACE was established, many patients needing joint replacements
and other bone deformity surgery had few places to turn for help.
The cost of surgery was prohibitive. Financial assistance from
other charities was virtually nonexistent. BRACE has filled this
need. The following are the Association's objectives:
STATEMENT
OF PURPOSE
1.
Provide coordination and funding for care of severe bone and joint
disorders;
2. To improve the quality of life and function of productive adults
by corrective surgery; and;
3. To foster interest in the correction of musculoskeletal conditions
not supported by governmental, institutional, charitable or other
private programs.
4. The association strives to reach these goals through patient
care,patient and family support services, education and research.
Joint
Replacement Program
BRACE facilitates hip, knee and other joint replacement surgeries
by providing expert board-certified surgeons. Funding is provided
directly or coordinated so that complete surgical care is provided
without cost to the patient.
Bone and Joint Deformity Care
Funding for the surgical correction of musculoskeletal deformities
is available. Conditions for referral include bone tumors, unequal
limb lengths, spinal curvature (scoliosis), ununited or malunited
fractures, severe arthritis, and congenital or developmental
abnormalities of the bone. Selection of facilities where surgeries
are performed is made by BRACE. Applicants should direct medical
records, physician statements, X-rays and laboratory studies
to the BRACE medical director for review.
Patient and Family Support Services
Transportation to the medical facility and housing at reduced
cost can be provided for selected applicants and family members.
Education
BRACE sponsors the presentation of medical symposia and papers
on musculoskeletal injuries and diseases. BRACE also supports
several research projects.
Applicants
for assistance should direct their inquiries, medical records
and X-rays to BRACE at the address above.
